Owner Reviews, Ratings, Comments and Criticism
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I am suprised that nobody(not even ign)has reviewed this game.it has gotten barely any press and is much better than nba live 09. This is a sim game not arcade. You will not be scoring 150 points a game. The gameplay is superb with no framerate issues at all. The graphics are okay. Some players look great while other players are unrecognizable. Shooting with the wii remote is hard but you will get use to it. To actually shoot and not do a pump fake you must pull the wii remote way back and after you see your player jump to shoot you can follow through. You must do this deliberately and not too fast. Taking a charge where you have to point the wii remote and nunchuck down is also incredibly hard and is very unresponsive. If you don't like the motion controls just use the classic controller. This game has all the modes in the xbox and ps3 versions and nba today really works. The commentary is also the best i have heard in a sports game. The commentators will actually talk about real games and events. This game has great graphics for a wii sports game and is quite fun. if you want a basketball game for the wii buy this game. Nba live 09 is trash compared to this. Gameplay-Players have very fluid movement(no sliding feet). Isomotion is in this game. Basic dunking is easy but reverse dunking is nearly impossible with the motion controls. There is no point and pass like Nba Live 09 but there is icon passing. The post offense is much improved over last year's game. Players will not always make post shots. The defense is great, my only complaint being the difficulty of taking a charge. You press z to defend a player and follow the arrow that indicate what direction your player will take. Blocking and rebounding can be done by swinging the wii remote up. Open layups and easy shots are rarely missed. The playcalling and dual player control are in this game, and they both work fine. if you dislike the gameplay you can adjust it to your liking with all the game sliders this game provides. 8.0 Graphics-They are better than the ps2 version's graphics and some of the player models(like Steve Nash)look almost like their HD counterparts while others mostly the black players look very choppy sloppy. There is field of depth in some areas. Movement is quite fluid. No framerate issues. This is not a ps2 port. It is a graphically challenged version of its hd counterparts. 8.0 Commentary and Audio- the commentary is definitely the best for any sports game I have played. If you are playing a Nba Today game the commentators will talk about real life games and stats. The commentary never gets stale for me. It seems like they are always talking about something new. The music selection is also good with many popular hip hop songs. 9.5 Presentation-I love the 2k menus and especially the ticker at the bottom of the screen showing current scores. Living Rosters works great. The rosters are always up to date and player ratings go up or down depending on how they play in real life. The overlays are also a nice touch.9.5 Lasting Appeal-This game is overloaded with modes: Blacktop mode, practice mode, season mode, association, my player, team up, are all included. The my player mode will last you a very long time if you are willing to work through all the glitches. The association mode is awesome and is probably the best mode of all sports video games. 9.5 Overall- 8.5 Buy it now if you want a good sim basketball game.
